May Musings - Farm Update

May, the month of sowing, growing and weeds.

It is May 12th 2024 and there is so much hope in the air. The winter was long, mild and wet and the start of Spring was not much better. Just as my desperation for sun and light was peaking we have finally had some glorious weather.

The slow start to the season is becoming a distant memory and every time I take a walk around the farm something has grown an inch or starting flowering.

The sun has brought with it hope for a flower filled season. This year is our second proper year of growing and the winter has been spent expanding the plot and the range of flowers we are growing. We have also adapted our sowing process and have removed potting on into bigger pots and all the annuals are being planted out from the 72 cell trays. This not only reduces the compost we use but makes planting out so much easier and consistent.

So for those of you interested here are some of the new blooms that have been added to the plot this year:

Perennials: Phlox, Echinops, Meadow Rue, Eryngium, Shasta Daisy, Siberian Yarrow.

Annuals: new varieties of Zinnia, Calendula, Cosmos and Amaranthus

As well as an ever growing bed of Garden Roses - I can’t wait to see these all in flower it will be a stunning display.

Any questions about what we are growing or plans for the next season drop us an email - hello@gatheredatdusk.co.uk
